I had the privilege of meeting Kelli my freshman year of college. Kelli was, as we all know, the most energetic, funny, and caring person I had met. We ended up having a couple of classes together, countless times eating at the Commons, and numerous times just hanging out around campus.  Kelli was always there for anyone and everyone who had problems or issues in life and so I approached her saying I felt disconnected from Christ ever since I started college Kelli was right there for me. Kelli immediately started to send me bible verses a couple times a week as well a full playlist of her favorite worship songs. The next time I saw Kelli, she invited me as her guest to come to a college ministry at NorthStar church called WAVE. I was honestly kind of nervous to go because I know that some church groups can get very "clicky" and sometimes it is awkward to walk into a room where you know no one and make new friends. As soon as I walked in Kelli lit up and introduced me to about everyone in the room. And almost everyone came up to Kelli to say hi which just proves the point of how friendly and loving she was to people of all walks of life. She truly loved every neighbor as she loved herself just as Christ called us to do. Fast forward 3 years, and because of Kelli living sent for Christ by inviting me to church, I met and became friends with some of the most Godly and amazing people I have met. We went to church together every week for almost 2 years and she helped me grow to much closer to God and I couldn't thank her enough for doing so. Helping me grow so much in fact, that through the connections I grew with WAVE I publicly proclaim my faith in Christ through baptism. I didn't tell any body that I was going to get baptized that night as I wanted it to be a surprise. And I will never forget when Kelli and Kristy came to church tonight they both were ear to ear smiling and had tears in thier eyes. There is a picture of me getting pulled up from the water, everyone in the church is seated clapping, but if you look in the back of the picture you see Kelli and Kristy standing up filming the whole thing cheering me on. After Kelli passed a lot of things did not make sense. I had many hard nights thoughts with God about it and just tried to wrap my head around which I do not think I will ever be able to do. It hurts knowing that I won't be able to see my friend again on this earth. As a couple hard months went on since Kellis passing, I got a text message from Kellis roomate Ashely. She had been in Kellis room and found a note with my name on it. Ashely gave it to me after church one Sunday and I opened it in the parking lot. Inside was $10 and a note. Kelli had written me a note about how thrilled she was about my baptism. She wrote about how she could not wait to see how God would work in my life. In true Kelli fashion she took the time to write me a note to not only show her excitement but also just how much she cared for others. That was the sign I needed. That even though she may not be with us physically, she will always be with in spirit with little reminders like that note that she will always be with us.

I first met Kelli during sorority rush my freshman year of college. We were in the same “Pi Chi” group and went through the entire process together. We were both going through similar struggles at the time, and I honestly don’t think I would have made it through the week without her support. On Bid Day when we opened our bids, they both revealed “Alpha Omicron Pi”. In that moment I felt like I was going into college with someone I had known my whole life even though we had only met a few days prior. Little did I know how huge of an impact she was about to make on my life. I was baptized as a baby and have always been a believer, but as I got older, I let life get in the way of being a consistent church goer. Kelli introduced me to CrossFit at the same time she first invited me to NorthStar church on Sundays as well as their college ministry, WAVE, on Wednesday nights. So, between working out, sorority, and church, we spent little time apart. Kelli’s love for Christ was a beautiful thing. It was contagious. The way her eyes lit up when we were in a service, worshipping, reading in the Bible, or just having a Jesus talk was so very special. Not only did she speak of Christian values, but her behavior and heart reflected them too. From Kennesaw to Athens, wherever Kelli went, light followed. Kelli was not only my best friend, but she was also a sister to me. My family considered her family, as I still consider hers. People say becoming roommates can tear friends apart, but it only brought us closer. I wish everyone had the opportunity to spend the amount of time I had with her on the daily, because then they would be able to witness first-hand why she was so loved. We did almost everything together (no exaggeration) and I mean it when I say that for over three years there was never a day that girl met a stranger, never a day she did not put others before herself, or a day that her goofy personality did not fill every room. She was a constant in my life and someone I wholeheartedly trusted. At the end of the day, no matter what, I knew that she would be there right by my side. Kelli might have taught me how to put air in my tires along with other independent living skills, but more importantly I am a better person because of her. She helped me grow in my faith and become closer to God in ways I never knew were possible. She encouraged me, celebrated my achievements (even if they were small wins like driving somewhere without GPS), made me laugh so hard I cried when I was so sad that I couldn’t fake a smile, and so much more. Any positive attribute you can think of, she had. I feel that there are not enough words or pages to fully capture my gratefulness for her, to express how immensely she is missed, or truly how amazing she was. There is not a day I do not think of her or wish she hadn’t left us so soon, but I am content in knowing that she is happier than she ever has been up above the clouds with our Creator and reunited with other loved ones. Now, to honor her memory we continue to Live Sent (John 20:21) and love extra on the things she held closest to her heart.
